On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in the Splatsin Development Corporation (SDC) boardroom, SDC CEO Grahame Go and Nik Vischschraper, Quilakwa Investments Operations Manager and Chief Organizer of the SDC Classic Golf Tournament, proudly presented a cheque for $38,209.62 to Splatsin leaders. Kukpi7 Michael Christian, Tkwamipla7 Crystal Morris, and Kyle Crump, the Splatsin Recreation & Community Centre Manager, were present to receive the cheque, marking a significant contribution from the proceeds of this year’s tournament toward community enhancements.

The funds raised during the 8th Annual SDC Classic Golf Tournament, held at Mabel Lake Golf Course on September 4, 2024, will go directly toward installing new digital scoreboards in the Splatsin Recreation & Community Centre. The scoreboards, expected to cost around $30,000, will enhance facilities for local youth sports like basketball and volleyball, fostering both athletic development and community engagement. The remaining funds will support additional recreational programming, expanding opportunities for youth and community members alike. Installation of the scoreboards is anticipated to be completed by the end of this year, pending final arrangements.

“The SDC Classic brings together not only our community members but also corporate partners who share a commitment to the well-being of the Splatsin community,” said Kukpi7 Michael Christian. “Thanks to this collective support, this year, we’re able to provide resources that foster connection, recreation, and development opportunities for Splatsin youth.”

Kyle Crump, who accepted the cheque alongside Splatsin leadership, added, “This contribution from SDC and its partners provides much-needed updates to our facilities and strengthens our programming. With these new scoreboards, we can create a better experience for our youth and all who participate in sports here.”

With dedicated organizing by Nik Vischschraper, along with strong community support and sponsorship, the 8th Annual SDC Classic was an overwhelming success, embodying SDC’s commitment to enhancing opportunities for Splatsin’s next generation.

Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, and sponsored the tournament. Your support is making a real difference in our community.
